ModNation Racers

Last week I got the retail version of ModNation Racers. If you have previously read my ModNation Racers Beta Impressions, there isn't really alot more I can add (if you haven't read those Impressions, go read them now. I'll wait for you).

All I can say is, apart from the long loading times, there aren't alot of negatives for this title. If you like Mario Kart-ish racing games, and character customisation, then this is the title for you. Alot of the fun is looking online to find Characters, Karts and tracks created by other users. Some of the content out there is truly creative, much more than my effort Scottio (pictured above). I did make a Homer Simpson from scratch, and it only took me about 15 minutes to complete.

If you have a PS3, I highly recommend you give ModNation Racers a try. It is the perfect mix of Mario Kart, and Little Big Planet.

EDIT: Oh... and if you are playing ModNation Racers, go and download my creations =)

Gamerscore Success!

Ooooh yeah, check out that 44,444 gamerscore! Today I got the final 50 gamerscore to achieve this cool number. I had to bring out an old game and specifically target 2x 10 point achievements.

Looking forward to getting 77,777 one day. Booyah!

Red Dead Redemption: Flying People

Red Dead Redemption is an awesome game, a game which I have been playing alot since getting it last week. Part of the reason why I have been neglecting the blog (sorry).

I have heard about the game being quite glitchy, and have heard about a few of them. Personally, I have only come across some very minor things (which you'll probably find on most sandbox games). Here is a video of the 'Flying People' glitch...

I'll be writing up some impressions for it soon. Patience, my canuckistani's. Remember, good things come to those who wait.

Happy Birthday Pac-Man!

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the arcade release of Canuckistan favourite Pac-Man. This classic game as first released on 22nd May, 1980 in Japan, and would probably be the most influential video game ever (Space Invaders also comes to mind). Many versions/spinoffs of Pac-Man have been released over the years, on nearly every video game system around.

Although I have never been very good at Pac-Man, it has always had a special place in my heart. Personally, I think it's very important for gamers to know and understand the history of gaming.

My favourite Pac-Man titles are Ms. Pac-Man, the original Pac-Man, and the amazing Pac-Man Championship edition being the best (in my opinion). All three of these versions are available on the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

Gaming is a massive part of my life, and Pac-Man is a big reason for that. I have symbolised this, with a tattoo...

Even after 30 years, Pac-Man is still relevant today. Head over to google.com to see their playable tribute to the yellow guy.

Fantasy Football (EPL)

As some of you would know, I am a fan of Football (Soccer). I know I haven't posted about it until now, but yes, I like football. I follow Arsenal in the English Premier League (EPL) and Melbourne Victory in the A-League. The World Cup is coming up next month in South Africa, and I anticipate many sleepless nights (I should probably apply for annual leave) during the tournament, as the time difference is a killer for us Aussies.

Another aspect of Football which I love is Fantasy Football. For the past few years, I have been playing Fantasy Football in a league with friends. It has been a great way for a bit of friendly competition, and to follow the games in general.

A big part of the fun for me is picking the team name, and kit colours. This last year my team was named T-Rexington Athletic, and we sported some of the most spiffy kits around...

The 2009-10 season has just finished, and I had another solid year (I think I've came 3rd for the past 3 years). During the season, there is alot of friendly banter, as some managers do well (ie: lucky), and others struggle. T-Rex was struggling for most of the season (was as low as tenth), but had a very good 2nd half to gain many positions on the table.

With the 2010-11 season starting in a few months, I'd love to expand the participants in the next league. If you like football, or just like a bit of fun, I'd love for you to join us next year. As we get closer to August, and the league has been setup, I'll post some more details.

It's alot of fun, and I hope you can join. Let me know if you're interested.

Cheerleader

Last week I had the pleasure of seeing a friend's band, named Cheerleader. This night was the launch of their new EP, named New Animal, and it was a great night.

Cheerleader are a four-piece band which offer up alot of energy on-stage, a great indie-rock sound, and a unique vocal style. They play a very tight, and well rehearsed set which shows maturity of a band well beyond their years. I brought along two friends who, like me, don't usually listen to this style of music, and we all went home thinking Cheerleader have a sound which can take them places. My friends were very surprised to learn that this was only the second show which Cheerleader have done.

The New Animal EP has five songs which are very well written and all sound very different to each other. Not many bands can offer up so much variety to early in the life of their band.

Check out cheerleaderband.com to listen to a couple of their tracks, and look up some show details. They also have a facebook page HERE. Goto one of their shows, and buy an EP. I know firsthand how much time and effort they have put in, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Impressions: Dirt 2

It sucks. It really does. Despite the rally cars on the boxart, there isn't alot of rallying in this game. There is alot of Rally cross, offroad trucks and simular X-TREME styles of racing, but it isn't the rally game that I wanted.

This game is nothing like the good old Colin McRae Rally games, which focussed on the World Rally Championship: Point-to-point rallying. Dirt 2 tries to take everything to the X-TREME, to americanise the sport, even though americans generally don't give a shit about rally's. Dirt 2 has taken 90% out of what I used to love about those games. I don't care about former Moto-cross stars and X-games bullshit, I just want rally.

Not to completely shit on this game, when there IS rally, it is alot of fun. The graphics are nice and slick, with fun handling and atmosphere. If you're into this X-TREME form of off-roading, this is the game for you. I couldn't last more than two hours of playing Dirt 2.

Dirt 2 is about as X-TREME as shoving a can of Mountain Dew up your arse. Wait, that would be pretty X-TREME... Playing Dirt 2 is probably as painful as shoving a can of Mountain Dew up your arse.

Yet Another Update...

Howdy all. Another week, another update. Fuck, I've really got to get back in the swing of things. What have I been doing? Still settling in & slowly getting used to not living alone. Things were much more quiet, and better when I was living alone. But, I need to do this, and things are slowly improving in a financial sense.

Since I'm too lazy to do it, I'll tell you... I was going to do another "Impressions" post, but this time as "Impressions: Moving Back With Parents", but yeah... too lazy. 'Tis a shame, as it probably would have been rather amusing.

I started a new job (still within the bank) today, so thats going ok. A change of scenery was what I needed, and it is what I've got. 3 months of me being able to just put my head down, and work. No silly questions, nobody to be responsible for, just me. It is just a 3 month stint, but couldn't come at a better time.

I haven't been gaming too much, well nothing too serious, as I'm still trying to get used to earlier starts - needing to get up at 6am really kills the prospect of gaming past midnight, like the old days. I've just been playing some more Splinter Cell (Finished it. Loved it.), with the occasional game of Battlefield & Just Cause 2.

The Canucks have started this years playoffs well, with a 4-2 series win against Los Angeles. Their next series is against the Chicago Blackhawks (who eliminated the Canucks last year), and the Canucks got off to an amazing start, with a 5-1 victory in Chicago. GO CANUCKS GO!

Hopefully I'll get into a good routine, and start writing more frequently...
